Outstanding product with no issues to date - 500 burn hours and counting. I researched many models and manufacturers of wood pellet stoves, and Comfort Bilt continued to shine through as a leader in quality, reliability, and functionality.
I purchased the HP50S direct from ComfortBIlt late 2022 and installed it myself - no issues and straightforward. I installed the stove in a newly finished walk-out basement, with the primary purpose as supplemental heat for approx 1,300 sqft. I operate the stove in manual mode, and haven't taken it off of the lowest setting since it provides plenty of heat to exceed 75deg with outside temps in the teens. We recently had a week of sub-zero temps, and I never had to ramp up the heating level to maintain 70+deg in the living space. The warm lower level also adds a nice warmth to the main level and allows our whole house HVAC/heatpump to maintain temperature without running backup/emergency heat as often.
Actual observed hardwood pellet consumption averages ~2.25lb of pellets per hour on heat level 1. Premium hardwood pellets near Kansas City, MO were purchased for ~$4/bag leaving me with an operating cost less than $0.25/hr. Do the math, and it's a very economical option for high BTU/heat output. Because these stoves are so efficient, they qualify for Federal tax rebates (as of 2023) that will help offset purchase and install costs.
Final comments are related to maintenance and lifecycle ownership. ComfortBilt did a great job with stove design and product architecture. The replacement/wear components are standardized across most of their models and designs - making it economical and easy to find replacement parts if needed (fans, switches, ignitor, etc.). The stove is VERY easy to clean and maintain, and it takes me about 10mins to do a thorough OCD style cleaning each week :). Empty the ash pan, wire brush the burn pot and heating tubes, wipe the glass and door area with a damp paper towel - finally vacuum out any ash or debris left over. There are helpful videos online, and the documentation is accurate. I also hear their customer support is top-notch (thankfully haven't needed that yet). Well done ComfortBilt, keep it up!
